Japan

Japan took a small number of refugees in the late seventies, but the community that exists today is almost entirely recent. Technical intern trainees, students and skilled workers arrived through the 2010s in numbers that made Vietnamese one of the most common nationalities in the country within a decade. It is a young community, often on temporary visas, and the questions it argues about are about wages, contracts and whether to stay.
