Korea and Vietnam have a complicated shared century, and the community that exists now grew out of the trade and factory ties that followed it. Labor migration from the 1990s was joined by marriage migration in the 2000s, producing a large second generation of Vietnamese-Korean children. Ansan’s multicultural district is the clearest center, though Vietnamese-run businesses reach into every industrial city.
