Britain’s intake came largely through the Hong Kong camps, and government policy dispersed families in small clusters across the country, which slowed the formation of a center. People regrouped anyway, mostly in east and south-east London. Kingsland Road in Hackney turned into a strip of Vietnamese restaurants dense enough that Londoners call it the Pho Mile, and it now feeds a lot of people who have never met a Vietnamese person otherwise.
